Word Games
Word games…
Old ones we played
on the fold-out card table
were much better than these
we're doing lately in society.
Scrabble— was the most treasured
of all word games, arguably.
At times it brought out " fighting words"
when questionable words were laid out—
but arguments over them were good-natured.
Nowadays, we often get into it bigly
over silly P.C. and other dubious words
in our vernacular.
We question many of these—
but, amazingly, accept usage of some.
Pictionary— that was a riot to play
together with the posse,
trying to guess the word from
the wildest, most preposterous
pictures drawn up on paper.
But now, it is not so amusing
trying to figure out and find the words,
in response to streams of disturbing
imagery, especially online.
Sensory overload renders us speechless!
Cryptos— what exceptional word challenges
We were up for them, often staying up
‘til midnight to finish 'em.
It was an intriguing mindtrip
trying to figure out the right words.
Nowadays, it's such a headache
deciphering what people
are thinking and saying...
So much so that we often
don't bother much at all trying.
Crosswords— we loved racking
our brain trying to solve the clues—
whether we did so
cautiously by penciling in
or confidently by using a pen.
Now, "crosswords" is entirely different.
It's become nerve-racking.
It's all about saying angry words
over such minor matters.
We've become too cross with one another.
Hey— how about we reunite and reignite
our passion for word games on the tabletop
and come to a screeching stop
to all these current foolish, frivolous
and petty word games? Would be nice...
