What's in your drafts? I'll show you some of mine
Post of ponderings, perhaps prompts for me for you too
So, you’re experiencing a whirling brainstorm and dealing with major draft coming in. How are you managing it?
What’s in your Draft section? Is it full of partially written lines like mine? Perhaps your future masterpiece story or article is developing there in the space. Or maybe some letter on which you dare not to push “send”.
Item count in all of my drafts—from 2 email accounts, “Poems in Repair” Word Folder and IPad Notes— is well over 500. No kidding. Indeed, some draft entries are truly junk but there are plenty of unfinished pieces waiting to birthed as “good poetry” or lines in a story.
Revealed below are some titles and frequent topics occupying space in my drafts. Get a sneak peek of what may be future poetry or prose, travel pieces and other posts.
SOME TOPICS AND TITLES IN MY DRAFTS CURRENTLY
War (topic)
I hate thinking and writing about war but society is pushing it so hard, I have to respond to it. A working title I have for a piece: “War Shove”“The Geography of Me”
Sounds like a future memoir title for me, someone gaga for maps, globes and geography“The Greater Good” (topic)
Deserves essay treatment or an epic poem on this concept“Sad For Karens”
Begs to be a line in a poem or title for some kind of piece one day“Same Ship”
May be not just one but a series of poems if I brainstorm it hard”Cherba “
Poem or something about the lovely sound birds in my yard make
Do you ever make time to hear the birds?
Hollywood/Hollyweird (topic)
on the real-life town and the film-related aspect …mystique gone pieces“means everything to me” (a song lyric stuck in my head. Do you have one? )
Sounds like it should be sung by Whitney or Mariah
Charles Bukowski, Langston Hughes (topic)
Maybe a few creative pieces of the authors individually, including myself in it. Me and Bukowski chatting in a bar; Me and Langston hanging out at a jazz club. Maybe a piece on the places that helped shape them“Gaslight”
I’m sure to finish a poem called with this title one day!“Diversity” (topic)
Ditto (like Gaslight)“Stocked traumas”
Some kind of poetic piece with this title or similar on how people hold on to their trauma , expanding on a line from Like Tide Detergent, Trauma“Trad Wife”
Should be a piece this year, while trad wives continue to a cultural trend“Cancellation” (topic)
The idea of cancelling human beings is something I’ll never get over“Goodbye, California”
I did not do a swan song piece about leaving California.
“Jennette McCurdy”
A piece on her curious, troubled life and that fascinating, disturbing autobiography. A fave actress of mine. I wanna hug this girl badly!
“I Miss Old Rap Days”
Started as a haiku, turning into a long poem. I should have perfected last year, the 50th anniversary of rap. Hopefully will be done before the 75th anniversary!Terezin
Poem about the Czech town, site of an old Nazi concentration camp. I visited in autumn, 2018. Been tinkering a lot with this one.Anyone writing on some topics above?
What have you been brainstorming
and drafting lately?
Your drafts make a lot more sense than mine. :) I have a conglomerate mess until I get down to the final draft. You are one brave woman, Marinarena!
Please do you and Bukowski chatting in a bar!
