but allow us to miss you much,
that previous you, who conveyed such…
pura poesia (pure poetry).

Si, claro! (Yes, of course), you didn’t need our permission
to pursue grand pop ambition
Indeed, you moved on 
and we did, también (also).

You were such a natural
swaying that original
raven hair, playing guitar
like a Latina Pat Benatar.

We miss your deep philiosophy
felt fondly in your songs, the old ones...
We miss your keen commentary

COMMENTARY

Inspired by a number of fan responses in comment sections, this piece is an ode to music artist Shakira (Shaki), particularly the Shakira music of earlier days. No diss piece here of the artist she has become today— rather, a fond reminiscence of her back in the day.

“Old Shaki” stood out as a somewhat demure yet confident woman, a singer-songwriter type with an old soul and strong artistry woven into her songs. Later, she transformed to audacious, mega pop star Shakira, who often flaunts herself with hip-gyration and booty shaking.
