Perhaps I shouldn’t compare America
to fashion— but I liken
her to an old pair of jeans,
one that the Japanese
would pay much yen
She is still trendy,
has been tested often—
but has been able to take
the added weight
thrusted upon her
She’s held up well over the years—
though she keeps spreading herself,
maybe too thin
Her fabric, though, remains durable
Great metaphor!
You’ve gotta love an old pair of reliable jeans too :)
"She’s held up well over the years—
though she keeps spreading herself,
maybe too thin
Her fabric, though, remains durable"
This verse reminded me of Johnny Cash's tone poem "Ragged Old Flag".
