She takes the 460 religiously from Los Angeles, raises her hands up
as if to praise its arrival.
She boards near St. Vincent Parish by Fig & Adams,
clings on her cross and on the shield of the bus window
that does not rattle like the hand of her husband.
She loves to take the bus- better this than to go through
the motions back home, where she is dealt a bad hand,
that strikes and strikes.
As of now, she hasn't been affected by a bus strike—
of which she's heard rumors.
How it would hurt like hell if turned out true—
though it wouldn't be wounding
like the blows from her husband.
The bus is the means for her escape from domestic affairs
gone beyond sad.
They’re damn near sadistic.
From the shady corridor of Figueroa, she flees on the 460
to arrive to her safe Harbor, Harbor Blvd
at a hotel where she works as a maid.
She doesn’t mind picking up after others
having been used to picking up the pieces
of her domestic heartbreak.
