Keep up beforehand with current news/affairs of potential countries or regions that you plan to visit.
Consider adding CFAR (Cancel for any Reason) travel insurance to cover trip cancellation
(if the higher cost is not an issue)Register for STEP, the State Department’ Smart Traveler’s Program. US Embassies will be able to assist you directly in case of an emergency
