ABOUT REAL ID and 2025 Travel
REAL ID license or ID card is set to be implemented in the U.S. on May 7, 2025
(unless actual implementation is delayed again).
Question is… do you need to get REAL ID?
NOT if you already have a U.S. Passport!
If you don’t have a passport, a REAL ID will be required if you plan to fly domestically after May 7 and if you dont have another qualifying federal issue ID.
REAL ID has been encouraged policy to help ease travel at the airport - question is:
Is it worth the predicted burden and concern?
Reasons Why You May Reject REAL ID implementation:
Real ID may threaten to privacy and civil liberties.
The law creates a national ID card, invades individuals’ liberty and privacy as well as facilitates data collection and data sharing.
The system for the ID requirement is vulnerable to discrimination and hacking risks
Administrative cost! It can mount in federalized system.
Decide for yourself whether or not REAL ID is truly worth getting.
