S aw Heath Ledger here once
A t 3rd Street Promenade.
N o one recognized him
T hough I did right away
A t a time he wasn't A-List famous.
M ixed in well with the crowd
O f tourists and locals alike
N o picture, no autograph I sought
I t would have been too much
C alling such attention to him. I know
A ll too well — i'm the same way
Backstory: I really did spot him out in the crowd. I can’t remember the exact date but it was sometime before his breakout role in Brokeback Mountain (2005).

I’m working on summarizing my thoughts on the city of Santa Monica — but I had already written about 3rd Street Promenade. From 2023:
I was such a fan of Heath Ledger. He was from Perth Western Australia, which where I’m from. And there was always something so inspiring about knowing that someone from my quaint little city had ‘made it’.
He was also amazing in the movie ‘Lords of Dogtown’ as Skip. Being a skateboarder I was partial to that as well :)
