Act II of The Jubliance and Joke of Juneteenth
Red
See the red of it all, y’all—
not angrily,
but— the red spiritually
as the Yoruba and Kongo do.
Red is deep power,
Crimson energy.
Eat the red up. Save some room
in belly for red velvet cake,
or seedless watermelon.
Drink up the red. Raise your glasses
gulp Big Red drink to the rim,
down it and get dizzy
Red up a Juneteenth party,
make it festive and patriotic
with added white and blue.
But please, no more splatter
no more gushing of blood red
on the streets.

I just wrote a poem on the color red but I like your poem much better than mine!
