For the love of Jesus

and in honor of his big day,

Christmas…

we give in to seasonal stress, let

ourselves go into 1 K+ in credit card debt,

and sing merrily to the silly,

sexualized song, “Santa Baby”!

Oh, for the love of Jesus!

And we indulgently eat and eat

and eat -and don’t regret

that third helping— geez!—

of honey ham and mac ‘n cheese,

that extra slice of yummy Yule log

and getting sloshed from spiked Egg Nog.

Oh, how we’ve gotten gluttonous!

All for the love of Jesus!

And we binge out like crazy on

a Hallmark Channel marathon

of sappy Christmas movies, then on

National Lampoons Christmas Vacation,

watch Home Alone, Elf— but we slight on

the number of hours of logged devotion

to oh so precious baby Jesus. Sweet baby Jesus!
