Inspired by the song titles Tracy Chapman by Tracy Chapman
She wrote a letter
slipped it in his slot,
felt he was present just
BEHIND THE WALL
When she dropped it off,
she heard some murmurs—
but he didn’t open the door.
The letter revealed all her heart
and MOUNTAINS O’THINGS
Silly things...
It was addressed:
“FOR MY LOVER”
in front with juvenile stickers of smilies
and ACROSS THE LINES
of bamboo note papers
were finely drawn hearts
It read:
“BABY CAN I HOLD YOU…
I still love you…
I’d do anything FOR YOU...
I miss riding with you
in your red hot FAST CAR….
I miss our world together
when we’d talk about anything
and everything….
talkin’ bout love
talkin’ ‘bout the weather
TALKIN’ ‘BOUT a REVOLUTION
the revolution to fight for
for our sanity in this crazy upside world…
How come you’re not talkin’...
WHY?...
When will you open up to me?...
IF NOT NOW…”
After waiting a good while
for him to show his face
to newly open up a door
and give in to love again—
she gave up the good fight
Right after he heard her
leave by taxi
He trashed the letter
like junk mail
and went on his merry way
Now, she is off...
SHE’S GOT HER TICKET
to a new place
to make a fresh start
where she hopes to find
that one true blue fit for her heart
A FAVE TRACK DONE ACOUSTICALLY
