I Miss Subtlety

How I miss subtlety in society...

the common occurrence of nicety;
enormous essence of finesse;
vast quintessence of delicacy;
extension of external calm
and quietness;
nourishment of nuance;
immense intension for intricacy;
touting of tact and restraint;
regarding of more refinement;
advancing with more discernment;
showcasing all the slow arts…

I miss subtlety...

How about more gentleness,
you gentlemen,
good gentlemen…
I know you are out there
and withal dare
to prove your temperate nature
with just the right tactic and manner
while keeping your manliness
and maintaining high stature—
without having the banner
of “too soft” placed on you.

I miss subtlety...

How about we ladies embrace
our innate subtleness more often?
It’s perfectly okay to soften
our modern-day rough edges,
okay to be less obvious.
Less on our face
is better than all the gunk,
the toxic chem junk
we constantly cake and paint
on… and c’mon ladies,
with the spilled-out cleavage…
pretty, please- have some restraint!

How I miss subtlety

How about we all be
more delicate with ourselves,
not punish ourselves harshly.
We should just nudge ourselves
but not always go at it so hard.
How about we slow things down,
take our sweet, sweet time…
take in small pleasures all around.
How that would be sublime!
Let us champion smart silence
as communication,
give nuance more of a chance!
Let’s enjoy a renaissance of refinement!

Somehow,
subtlety,
delicacy,
restraint, refinement,
discernment,
tactfulness,
finesse
and all of what is
understated
got downgraded—
but what is so wrong
to go along mightily
with subtlety?
