for Naomi Wolf
As they were wishing me dead
I was marveling how
stone cold dead they were
inside-out.
They stared at my naked mouth,
and stood aghast, as if they
did not see my grinning lips
rather, my bare vulva exposed.
Their looks at me tried to kill,
pumped out several rounds
into me while I was just
making the rounds about town.
But they never shot me down.
My build was strong steel.
I was Superwoman
without the cute cape and boots.
My town was a battlefield
of their own making.
But I didn’t want a war—
I just wanted to shop in peace.
Commentary of Poem:
Fresh selection here as it was just written this month. Inspired by a Substack post called “ A Lost Small Town” written in October 2022 by Dr. Naomi Wolf (worth a follow). The author and activist recounts her experience walking in her town of Millerton, New York while unvaccinated (sans Covid shots) and unmasked during heightened days of the pandemic. In the near future, I may add another piece inspired from this post.
