My Latest Getaway
Just how much do I love LOVE a train ride? Call me loco for locomotives. Following with the mental health theme, taking a leisurely train ride is such a way to unwind and ease up your mind. So, late April, I decided to take the Amtrak Surfliner to downtown San Diego via Anaheim. Surfliner is one of the scenic eye catching routes that Amtrak offers. Much of the route, mostly from San Clemente to Solana Beach, goes along the Pacific coast. Heading southbound, claim a window seat on the right and lean on to best take in the ocean blues.
TIP: Go business class for max comfort and other convenient. Great thing is that the business tier is not outrageously priced like the airlines’ version.

My Monterey memory: In my teen years, traveling up to Monterey with family and my best friend to meet up with a local Central CA based pen pal turned friend. The main tourist stop we made was Monterey Aquarium. I happened to catch a glimpse of the legendary, Robin Williams. He was very much unassuming and enjoying his own family time with wife and kids. I gave some space, smiled from a distance while gradually he was bombarded why fans. Poor Robin. He could not just be a normie and be left alone!
If you haven’t already, you should create some memories in the central California jewel, Monterey. I was reminded of marvelous Monterey recently while attend an online travel expo. What a glorious coastal destination not to be missed from much attention thrown to San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Famed for Highway 1, Big Sur and for the Aquarium. Get tipsy and try the wine in the city or adjoining towns, play some golf nearby and Do the 17 Mile Drive in and around Pebble Beach.

Anytime is a good time to come. Arrive at Monterey airport- MRY. You will likely have to transfer from San Francisco or from another major nearby city, such as Seattle and Denver.

I have taken advantage of Amtrak ride maskless. There is still no mask mandate on planes , trains and buses in the U.S. on a federal level. Unfortunately, a few metropolitan areas in the country have a tyranny complex and have re-introduced mask mandates on some local or metro transportation. There is talk of the U.S. Department of Justice reversing the national dismissal of the mandate. So, BIG GOV B.S. and the attack on travel industry continues. Let us pray this madness away, keep not complying, and making our voices heard to fight mandates.
